Dream Crochet Capes, Capelets, and Ponchos for Fall 2026
I've always adored Cloak, Capes, and my feelings towards them have only grown stronger. There's something whimsical about them, and they can turn a casual outfit into something special. They also go well with the Sophistication Dreamwear aesthetic, which is about simplistic beauty, so I’ve been quite inspired this fall season.
I made this openwork crochet capelet poncho using Neith Undyed DK Cotton Yarn, and it's just lovely. The soft Egyptian cotton is such a nice material to work with, and it feels like a dream too. It has a loose, scalloped edge, and the white yarn really allows the mustard polo shirt to pop. I also wore it with high-waisted jeans, and it creates a cool balance between short and long.
For The Riverdell Cape, I leaned into the fantasy of it all. As I was crocheting it, I envisioned an elf wandering through a forest, and I let it flow through me. The cape is oversized, and I used a geometric open stitch and an A-line shape so it looks pleasant as it cascades down. Mustard yellow is clearly a color I'm favoring this fall.
This cape was actually something I freestyled, and this beaded capelet came out of the process. I wore a dress with this, and the exposed neckline makes the outfit feel open. The stitchwork reminded me of spiderwebs, which is perfect for the spooky season. I also used mustard yellow for this capelet, and it would also look great in black to really sell the dark vibes.
The bohemian style works so well with this poncho design, and the earth tones remind me of the fall. The horizontal bands consist of terracotta rust, cream, and beige, and they complement each other so well, and I used a circular yoke design with alternating rows of openwork mesh and shell stitches for variety.
Capes are always and very much in style for me this year, and I feel like they just never really go out of style. I enjoy seeing all the different variations: there are capes, wraps, and cropped capelets in an assortment of lengths and styles. I keep coming up with more ideas for colors and concepts. It's truly never-ending, and I’m excited to discover what I’ll create next.
