Behind the Design: The Suns Beam Crochet Top
Some of my favorite designs are honestly, the ones that don’t turn out how I planned them. Early on my crochet journey, I would get so focused on getting projects done so quickly & the way I initially imagined them. So when they didn’t go to plan, (which they rarely do, but that’s okay!)
I would try to force it back in the original direction. As time has passed, over the years, I’ve come to learn that sometimes, projects kind of lead themselves. By letting the design take me where I need to go, it often turns out better than I imagined.
The first original concept.
That’s exactly what happened with The Suns Beam Crochet Top. Before it became this, it was a crochet dress. I liked it, but as I’ve lately I felt it needed a change. Another chapter in its journey. So I felt inspired to transform it into something else, so I frogged it out to create what my heart was telling me to make.
Frogging out the dress.
I've been in the mood to make an openwork crochet top that I can layer with other clothes. It's a bohemian style, relaxed, and oversized that just feels so comfortable yet stylish. The flowing sleeves might be my favorite part. I just love how light it is.
The color was also a huge selling point for me. When I first came across this yarn, the various colors- blue, purple, coral pink, and mint green work really well with solids and neutrals to make an outfit pop. It's an item that I know I can throw on with something simple just to elevate it to something eye-catching and one of a kind.
That’s one of the reasons why I named it after the word sunbeam. I believe it adds light to and beauty, &it brightens my mood when I wear it (especially now!) So when I went to style it, I added a metal chain belt, which gives it shape & contrast, to play with softness with hardness. Adding various necklaces & bracelets which also brings out that hippie vibe that I love so much. This was a joy to make!
